I’ve been a fan of Kawashita Mizuki since she her work like Ririmu Kissu/Lilim Kiss (りりむキッス), Ichigo 100%/Strawberry 100% (いちご100%) and Hatsukoi Rimiteddo/Hatsukoi Limited (初恋限定). Her older works are like Akane-chan Over Drive (あかねちゃん OVER DRIVE), which were small doujin releases. Ichigo 100% and Hatsukoi Limited were adapted into an animation series. Ichigo 100%, her longest manga series, was more successful compared to the adaptation which only went for 13 episodes and 5 OVA. On the other hand, Hatsukoi Limited did pretty well and right now extras are being released on the DVD version of the animated series.
Her new work called Ane Dokii (あねどきっ), released this year in Weekly Shōnen Jump, is one of my favourite readings at the moment. Similar art style to Hatsukoi Limited, the storyline is the usual boy meets girl but here, it’s more like young middle school boy meets high school girl (and falls in love? Lets just see).
Ah, the dream of 13! Kouta is our normal everyday boy, living with his fun-loving workaholic father. Lusting after the school idol in his class, playing games with his friend, there’s nothing especially noticeable about him. But one day his father has to transfer to Sapporo for a time and mysteriously appear a girl who volunteers to be Kouta’s live in caretaker. And what a girl!
Everything about her is mysterious: her mysterious incredibly showy body, her mysterious interest in our boy, her mysterious need to sleep in the same room…
I swear as a guy, whenever I read this type of manga, I simply wish my life was as fun as this. But face it, reality sucks and all I can do is dream on…quietly sulking to it. Haha! Anyways, if you just love boien and pantsu action, you don’t have to look further. It has the full package of making any boyhood dreams wanting to come true. Like a friend of mine says, “Totoi getting itchy…”. Beats small lil girls, with magic sticks and big guns.
